Growing number of casualties in the battlefield is a cause for serious concern for many professional and freelance translators and jouranlists.

Growing number of casualties in the battlefield is a cause for serious concern for many professional and freelance translators and jouranlists. Many translators working with the coalition forces and the media have recently been targets of threats, kidnapping, and even death recently in Afghanistan. Some of these translators are local Afghans, while others are foreign expats who were born in Afghan families. This is not only a concern for civilians who are trying to rebuild Afghanistan, but military and diplomatic sources are also worried that these fears will slow down the linguist recruitment for military and civilian initiatives in Afghanistan.

While condemning these heinous acts against innocent translators and civilians, Afghan Translation Service encourages Afghans to continue supporting the war torn country and asks both Afghan and coalition forces to take action in reducing civilian war casualties in general and translators in particular.
